We have just updated the listing for our museum-grade W.J. Jeffery & Co. sporting rifle with some sensational historical intelligence! If you are an investment-grade collector, pull up a chair, because this is as good as it gets.
This is a bespoke, turn-of-the-century London Gentleman’s Stalking Rifle, built on the ultra-smooth, lightning-fast Mannlicher-Schönauer STEYR 1893 bolt action.
THE FAIRBAIRN PROVENANCE:
We have just uncovered the identity of the original Edwardian owner. Stenciled beautifully onto the original canvas outer protective case is the name ‘W. F. W. FAIRBAIRN’. Historical records identify him as William Frederic Winchester Fairbairn (b. 1863), a wealthy, elite British landowner and competitive sportsman who split his time between sprawling country estates and the exclusive St. James’s district of London—literally doors away from W.J. Jeffery’s premier showrooms. This heavy-duty transit case was custom-stenciled for his high-society hunting expeditions across the British Empire.
THE SPECIFICATIONS:
This investment package boasts all-matching serial and assembly numbers (14280 / 658), pristine all-walnut furniture (no mismatched beech repairs), and multi-leaf express folding rear sights calibrated up to 300 yards. The barrel is cleanly engraved with Jeffery’s historic Queen Victoria Street showroom address, and the breech carries flawless, crisp London Proof House stamps, fully ‘NITRO PROVED’ for smokeless powder.
THE COMPLETE OUTFIT:
It comes entirely housed in its magnificent, original crimson velvet-lined presentation leather case, complete with the authentic W.J. Jeffery & Co. maker’s trade label and its matching, original vintage brass-tube telescopic target sight.
Nick wanted to see how it handled being bolted to the hull of our new 45-ton Tiger tank, but this piece of British elite history belongs strictly behind glass. Provenanced, untouched pieces like this do nothing but appreciate in value.
