MILITARY GEORGIAN PATTERN 1796 LIGHT DRAGOON FLINTLOCK PISTOL
MILITARY GEORGIAN PATTERN 1796 LIGHT DRAGOON FLINTLOCK PISTOL: TOWER
A highly authentic and beautifully solid example of the classic British military Pattern 1796 Light Dragoon flintlock service pistol, produced during the height of the Napoleonic Wars.
The lock plate displays highly defined, crisp markings featuring the royal cipher of King George III—a distinct Crown over GR—alongside a sharp “TOWER” production stamp across the tail. Mechanically, the action remains remarkably tight and crisp, cocking smoothly and holding perfectly with absolute reliability.
The heavy, round military-bore barrel has taken on an honest, dark plumb patina. While it displays some expected general historic pitting across the surface, the metal remains entirely solid and retains its official Tower of London ordnance proofs—including the Crown over Crossed Sceptres—stamped clearly near the breech block.
The stock is shaped from a dense, full-length piece of military-grade English walnut, showing a deep, warm color with authentic field-handling wear. It is completely fitted with its original, robust regulation brass furniture, comprising a heavy, classic stirrup-less brass trigger guard, a S-shaped brass side plate, a prominent brass nose band, and a heavy egg-shaped brass butt-cap. Complete with its original steel captive swivel-type ramrod secured cleanly beneath the muzzle channel.
A rugged, historic, and iconic piece of Georgian British cavalry history.
