COLT (Rare) MODEL 1855 MILITARY REVOLVING RIFLE .56 PERCUSSION
A RARE .56 PERCUSSION COLT MODEL 1855 MILITARY REVOLVING RIFLE, serial no. 2402,
circa 1860, with blued 31 3/16in. octagonal to round barrel, block and blade fore-sight (to accept a socket bayonet), standing notch 100yd. rear-sight with additional folding 300 and 600yd. leaves, solid frame (some pitting and traces of finish), the sunken sighting groove to top-strap signed ‘COL COLT HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.’, fully fluted five-shot cylinder with traces of patent markings in one flute, the left side of receiver marked ‘COLT’S PATENT NOV 24TH 1857’, side hammer and rear-mounted cylinder arbor, walnut butt-stock (old hairline crack alongside front of comb, lower tang with old repair), iron heel-plate with central trap containing the brass section of cleaning rod, small trigger guard, full-length walnut fore-end with two iron barrel-bands, under-barrel articulated rammer and iron cleaning rod front section, strong traces of finish especially on barrel
